Welcome at houtstylist.nl

Albert Jan Rouwkema started from a child making toys in his grandfather’s cartwright’s shop.
This was probably the base for his strong affinity with wood. During a course (1969-1976) his passion for (wood)art was intensified.
In november 1995 he attended Jamie Walwin’s course of woodturning in Millers Dale, U.K.

"Wood has become my passion. It’s a very fascinating material with its structures and its splendid burrs, with the regularity in the ringbark and the wildness in te burrs, showing the struggle for existence.

My design I find in natural and mathematical forms.
I often work thematically (the tears – rhythm – sailingseries) in which the turned, bended or sawed wood is combined with other materials (brass, perspex, paint, springsteel) and techniques like bending to create sculptures and objects.
I work exclusively with European wood and use an environmentally finish.

A lot of sculptures or objects have a dynamic character."
