Welcome at houtstylist.nl
Albert Jan Rouwkema started from a child making toys in his grandfathers cartwrights shop.
This was probably the base for his strong affinity with wood. During a course (1969-1976) his passion for (wood)art was intensified.
In november 1995 he attended Jamie Walwins course of woodturning in Millers Dale, U.K.

"Wood has become my passion. Its a very fascinating material with its structures and its splendid burrs, with the regularity in the
ringbark and the wildness in te burrs, showing the struggle for existence.
My design I find in natural and mathematical forms.
I often work thematically (the tears rhythm sailingseries) in which the
turned, bended or sawed wood is combined with other materials (brass, perspex, paint,
springsteel) and techniques like bending to create sculptures and objects.
I work exclusively with European wood and use an environmentally finish.
A lot of sculptures or objects have a dynamic character."
